Dear Brothers and Sisters,
It’s over. The 2020 gathering of the Indiana General Assembly concluded all business on March 11, 2020. Of the 903 bills filed in the House and Senate, only 168 passed and are headed to the Governor for signature. That is a mere 19% of all bills filed, proving the point that getting a bill passed is no easy task. Your FOP Team beat the average for success in this year’s session. All four (4) FOP issues will soon be signed into law. (See HB1225, SB181 and SB406 on Legislative Report #9, 2020, attached).
The Indiana FOP and its members had a great session this year. Not only were we successful with our specific FOP issues, we were able to assist with other very important bills that impact our members. (See HB1043, 1063, 1346 and SB25, 216, and 237 in the attached report).
I have included each step of the legislative process in Legislative Report #9, 2020, attached. It is important to note the complexity of the process and understand that 81% of all bills filed fail because they couldn’t make it through the sausage grinder.
Please carefully review this final Legislative Report for the 2020 session, and, as always, contact President Bill Owensby, Ed Merchant or me if you have any questions.
