Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Things are starting to speed up in the General Assembly as week three concludes. Over 1,000 bills have now been filed and we have reviewed them all. Some bills are being scheduled for hearings, in fact some have already been heard and have passed out of committee and on to the floor for second reading. See attached Legislative Report #3, 2019.
This week SB 85 was heard in the Senate Pension and Labor Committee. President Owensby testified in favor of the bill along with the Fire Fighters Union and the Police and Fire Chief’s Associations. The bill passed out of committee unanimously with a vote of 12-0. Clearing this committee is big step toward success. We still have a long way to go though and we caution all members against making any financial decisions based upon this bill until we know the final outcome.
